Kyle Scharf Photography
About this pro
I began my professional photography career in 2005 as a photojournalist for a local newspaper in Southwest FL. From there, I would maintain clients such as University of South Florida's College of the Arts, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Millennium Physician Group to name a few. My work has been published in dozens of publications across the country and I've had the fortune of working with hundreds of individual clients. Now I not only shoot, but employ and mentor photographers to build their own portfolio and, eventually, their business as well. Because of my background, I am able to shoot most assignments. Cutting my teeth in photojournalism has given me a sense of urgency and the ability to meet tight deadlines, which I love to do. High pressure = high reward. I live for the creative and collaborative aspects of photography. My bachelor's degree is in anthropology, which is the science of humanity. During my studies, I had the amazing opportunity to learn about and interact with people of all types from many walks of life. This education taught me to see life from a objective perspective. My background and passions have enabled me to work with people of all kinds with goals that are completely different from my own, while still creating something of quality. With technical skill, knowledge and the ability to hire freelancers or other professionals when needed, I have been able to organize large and small scale projects. I love working with small businesses and individuals to establish, refine and create their visions.
Customers rated this pro highly for professionalism, value, and punctuality.

- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?I like to speak with potential clients about their final photography goals. I tend to be very goal-oriented and specific. By envisioning where they want to end up, we can determine where to begin. For me, collaboration is key, and I really enjoy that process. Working together to create a final product we're both proud of is incredibly fulfilling for me.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work? While my Bachelor's Degree is in anthropology, my professional career extends over a decade. During this period, I have been closely mentored by a successful retired Navy Photojournalist and worked under several editors and directors. I've received the harsh critique that many photographers, unfortunately, miss out on today.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?I was fortunate to know at an incredibly young age what I wanted to do for a career. My mother bought me my first camera as a child. Immediately after graduating high school, with direction from my mentor, I began my first job as a photojournalist. I would move on to hold other staff positions and secure many freelance jobs.
