FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I typically price designs based on the size of the project; a typical city residential lot will fall in the $1,250 - $2,000 range, depending on design complexity and included features. Projects larger than .25 acres are priced individually based on the previous variables. I also consult for landscape projects on an hourly basis at $75/hr.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
After discussing a prospective client's project over the phone I will schedule a convenient time to meet at the client's home. Often I will bring along or forward a Garden Questionnaire to further clairfy a client's needs in more detail, making our in-person meeting even more productive. I will spend an hour with a prospective client discussing their landscape needs and desires and walk around the home to get a better sense of what needs to be done. We will then discuss the design process, one that typically requires 2-4 weeks from start to finish and includes at least one mid-process meeting to discuss the evolving concept to be sure that the design is moving in the right direction. At the end of the design period I meet with the clients once again to present the final design documents, which typically include specifications for plantings, hardscapes (including outdoor fire or water features, patios, walkways, etc.), irrigation and outdoor lighting. If the client requests it I will often include 3D renderings of the design so that the client can get a more accurate feel for what the design will look like once it is installed. At that point we will discuss the process for proceeding with construction. If the client wishes to work with Veridian Designs on installation, we discuss project phasing (if desired and appropriate) and I begin the process of bidding, scheduling and managing the construction.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I received my landscape design training through the Anna Gresham Landscape Design School as well as the California School of Garden Design. In 2009 I received my certification as a Master Gardener through the Oregon State University Extension Master Gardener Program. I have been designing landscapes professionally since 2008 and in 2012 received my landscape contractor license through the Oregon Landscape Contractors Board so that I could take charge of the construction of many of my own designs.
