Introduction: With more than 15 years of teaching and performing experience, I have developed dynamic and eclectic teaching methods that allow me to find the most appropriate approach for each individual, whether a beginner or professional, adult or child or vocalist or pianist. As a classical singer myself, I have experiences in instructing all voice types and styles, from folk, pop and rock to musical theater and classical. I specialize in helping my students develop healthy breathing habits as well as successful practice methods. Vocalists have the opportunity to learn repertoire with the support of full piano accompaniment in their lessons. I specialize in helping my students build musicianship, so they not only sing songs but learn to communicate as refined artists. With my piano students, I have had the pleasure of bringing beginners through to the works of Chopin, Beethoven, Bach, Mozart, etc. Again, I focus on building healthy habits from the beginning, including instilling a sense of self-discipline and empowerment that allows students to progress during the week in their own practice. The most rewarding part is to see the joy that music brings to students when they master a piece or to witness the victory of when a student solves a problem or discovers the secret to playing or singing something that had seemed an obstacle. The secondary enjoyment is the fulfillment of acknowledging that my guidance and sharing of what I love the most has helped a student achieve his or her goals.

I took voice lessons with Jessica consistently for three or four years, and saw her whenever I was in town up until she moved out of Chicago. She is far and away the best voice teacher I have ever had; her focus on healthy technique has given me a solid classical training that all my professors at school are impressed with. She also consistently went out of her way to help me with audition prep and vocal competitions in addition to accompanying me for a number of self-taped auditions. She was just as much my vocal coach as she was my voice teacher, in addition to being a good friend. I had her for voice, but she is an outstanding piano player and I have no doubt she is just as amazing a piano teacher as she is a voice teacher. I would recommend her to anyone; you can't go wrong with Jessica Coe.

My son took lessons for 6 years with Jessica. In that time, the development was breathtaking. By the age of 11, he was playing pieces by Chopin, Mozart, Debussy, Burgmuller and a number of other classical composers. He eagerly anticipated the lessons each week and looked forward to working on the pieces with her. During Christmas breaks over the past 3 years, when piano lessons would not take place, he would tackle a new Chopin piece on his own and would proudly play it for her at the first lesson in January after the break. She was such a great inspiration to him, it's a shame she no longer teaches in Chicago. He's 13 now and is still playing and giving public performances, using the solid fundamentals that Jessica provided to keep progressing and playing more difficult music. I would strongly recommend Jessica as a piano teacher and I'm sure her approach and method of teaching will make any child (or adult, for that matter) a better musician.

Jessica is the best choice in teacher you could ever make. I took both vocal and piano lessons with her until she relocated. She is incredible in both genres of music, as a teacher and a performer herself. She practices what she preaches and makes lessons and techniques easy to understand. She relates to you on your own level and encourages you with an element of patience you don't even have for yourself. Among her many talents, though, her most natural one is believing in her students. I've seen it firsthand, and it's the exact kind of characteristic you'd want in every teacher.
