- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)? My base price is $80. This includes a 10-15 minute phone introduction session. I will occasionally offer special packages and I do try to work with clients on limited incomes. I am considered an out of network provider for insurance carriers. Many small, independent practitioners, in mental health and other fields are finding it more difficult to accept insurance because the reimbursement rate has become so low. Often, even doctors like general practitioners have to have patients stacked allowing only 15 minutes per patient and mental health visits to psychiatrists are 20 minutes co-pays of $150 and up. Please remember when you seek counseling or therapy, you are making an investment in your long-term mental health and wellness, not just a current crisis or issue. When I decided to open my own practice, I had to consider my own safety and that of my clients. Although I would like to think my clients are all calm, rational people, the fact is some people may not be that stable when in an heightened emotional state. For this reason I have chosen to locate my offices in co-working buildings where we still have privacy yet our safety is not compromised. I have offices in North Kansas City, MO and Overland Park, KS
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer? After the consultation, the client and I discuss what their life looks like currently and how they envision it. We decide on goals and from there we plan out attainable, realistic steps and try to identify any possible pitfalls. As the process continues, we continue to move forward on the steps and evaluate them as we go. While it’s important to know our background and history, the majority of our time together is typically working on mindfulness, changing habits, communication, trust issues, coping skills, understanding empathy, intimacy issues, parenting, self-esteem/confidence, conflict resolution and more.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I have a Master's Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and Bachelors Degree in Psychology. I am a Gottman approved trainer I have previously a director of early childhood education programs and early childhood education advocate. I was a member of the Board of the Greater Kansas City Association for the Education of Young Children I am licensed by the State of Kansas as a Child Care Center Director for over 100 children. I completed an internship at the Child Abuse Prevention Association. My postgraduate work was in a behavioral hospital working primarily with adults with a variety of mental health issues. I worked with them individually, in groups, and with their partner/spouses. I also worked as a behavior consultant with developmentally delayed teens adults. I then went on to work in the foster care system as a therapeutic case manager. I began training in Brief Solution-Focused Therapy and Gottman Relationship Therapy Techniques. I became very ill for a few years and as I recovered I was able to use what I learned to help myself redirect my life, regain my inner strength and confidence and realize my dreams of helping couples and adults overcome adversity.
