Hiring contractors can be tough, especially without personal recommendations. I did my due diligence and am so pleased we picked David for our porch remodel. He did an awesome job (see picture). The job itself involved teardown of old deck, installation of Trex decking, Royal Vinyl Trim and Pressure-Treated Wood for the railings (we wanted long-lasting underfoot materials but to keep the price down overall). The trim material was completely his suggestion and it turned out really nice and was much cheaper than Trex. David's response to the Q&A on this website describe him and his partner down to a tee. We got three bids in all, including from the well-marketed porch companies in the City (with an office, sales rep etc etc.). They were both really polished when they turned up and I'm sure they would have done a good job but their bid was significantly more than David's. David is more old school. He knows he does a good job at a reasonable price so doesn't need a smooth marketing machine behind him. During the bid process, I particularly liked that he recommended a 7 inch rise on the front steps as per city standards (he immediately noticed that our old steps were much higher than this - something we had found a struggle). He also explored the possibility of restoring our old steps (rather than ripping them down) but noted that the wood underneath was all completely rotten due to poor ventilation. He was the only bidder that looked at our existing porch in this much detail and that helped to build trust early on. David took his time to get every detail right and it shows. Perhaps the best endorsement is that a number of our neighbors have complimented our new porch. Two were even so impressed they asked for David's number so we might be seeing him again on the block soon!

Details: Complete renovation of existing deck or porch • Wood • Residential

Andy Thank you for the most thoughtful, down to earth, detailed review. It is rare, to have a client go the extra mile when reviewing a job, especially with everyone's busy schedules. I feel fortunate to have met you, in that you really took the time to notice and appreciate the quality, detail, and pride I piut into my projects. Forever grateful, Dave

We’ve had problems with our upstairs bathroom leaking for several years. Dave diagnosed the problem as the floor sinking and reinforced the 100-year-old wood frame with iron. It worked like a charm for way less money than I expected!

Details: Yes, the structure has already been built • Other • No existing plans, but have a good idea of what I want • No, everything is removed - I just need installation • No, I do not need plumbing or electrical lines installed • No, I do not need drywall applied • Home

I contacted Dave regarding a proposal. He was prompt in his response. He came over to bid the work in short order. I contacted him for his bid and was informed by him that he had just picked up a large project that would take up a substantial amount of his time. I asked for a proposal for insurance and he provided it immediately. I appreciated his candidness regarding schedule and the professionalism on how he handle the situation. There was no wasting of time or miscommunication. I will contact him again and hopefully he will be available He's a pro.
