We feel so blessed that we found Amy on Thumbtack! Not only is she an accomplished and well-trained musician, but she is a wonderful teacher! My 11 year-old daughter, has been playing the piano for 5 years, but really wanted to learn violin. Amy has been the best fit for our daughter! She even comes to our home for the lessons and is starting to feel like member of our family! :) Amy is a very down-to-earth person. I love listening to how she talks to and instructs my daughter (from the other room)...never talking down to her like she's a little kid or a nuisance. Amy is kind, respectful, and patient and truly understands the difficulty of learning a new instrument. We are novices over here about the violin, so Amy has helped us every step of the way for a successful learning experience, including locating a quality violin for our daughter. Honestly, Amy goes ABOVE and BEYOND during the lessons, making sure my daughter feels comfortable with everything covered before the lesson ends. Make no mistake, Amy sets a high bar for her students, but does so in a nurturing and gentle way. It is easy to see that teaching music (violin) is a labor of love for Amy and not just a job! So that's a parent's perspective...but the best part is my daughter is having so much fun with Amy!!! They laugh together during the lesson, so it's not an intimidating experience, as I'm sure it is for some kids when learning an instrument. When I asked my daughter what she likes best about Amy, she said, "She is calm and so nice. She doesn't yell at me and it makes me want to do better." That's high praise from a tween! I highly recommend Amy as a violin teacher! She is a wealth of information, a skilled musician, a compassionate teacher, and a fantastic person to boot. No matter what the age of the student, you won't go wrong with Amy as your teacher! Good luck! :)

Many honors and scholarships in violin and piano. Completed all levels of Certificate of Merit (“CM”) including Panel in violin and piano, and went on to Honors. A manga cum laude masters degree in music with emphasis is violin performance. I started violin when I was 5 and piano at 7, and won my first competition at age 11. I’ve played for over 34 years. I can teach you to play very well, talented or not, as long as you are willing to put in the daily work time and effort.
