Chef Gordon prepared a multi course meal for a 20 person bachelorette party I hosted, and everything turned out wonderfully! He tailored the menu and the vibe of the event to our exact specifications, and everyone raves about the food!Aug 2, 2018

Do not hire Gordon Edelstein unless you want to be lied to. Or if you actually want services to be delivered as agreed and without wasting half your valuable time chasing him. Our event was a 60-person baby shower in Brooklyn. On the day of the event, Gordon never showed up, despite leading us to believe each time we called him that he was en route. That is when he actually answered his phone (avoiding calls and not responding to emails seems to be a pattern). He suggested he was stuck in over 5 hours of traffic for a ride that under even bad traffic conditions should take less than half that time. His partner -- with whom we never dealt - showed up several hours late to our event. The agreement was to serve food between 2-5pm, and to arrive by 12pm to set up. No food was served until nearly 4pm. We had to pay the venue owner an extra $125 simply so we could get everyone fed before they left. In a 3 hour event, food wasn't even available for our guests until after more than 2/3 of the event was over. Once service did begin, because there were only 2 people there to prepare the food and serve it simultaneously, our guests had to stand in line to get their food. In other words, they wasted the rest of the party waiting for their food to be served to them. We also agreed to swift buffet service, which we did not get. From 1230 onward, Gordon gave the impression he were headed to our event. His partner, however, indicated he was with a broken down truck at a previous event at 11am. So he double-booked events that day, despite having suggested we were his only day-time event, and lied to us about it. His partner and helper were less than courteous to our guests when they went to ask when the food would be ready. This was after Gordon told us on the phone that they would be serving within 20 minutes of arrival. In fact it was about 75 minutes after arrival that they starting serving. Gordon also told us they could start serving roast beef while they prepared the other food --they didn't. In the end, it was embarrassing to us as hosts to have guests have to ask when they might feed their children and the elderly guests at our party. His staff's annoyance at the inquiries and their inability to provide direct answers made the embarrassment worse. So while the food tasted fine, everything else agreed upon was far below satisfactory and placed undue stress and additional cost on us. It also made it impossible for us to have a successful event that we could enjoy. Rather than celebrating, we spent several hours trying to get some assurance that someone was actually coming to serve food, to ensure they got to the venue when they got in the neighborhood, and trying to get them to serve at the first opportunity. It was stress and embarrassment worth well beyond what Gordon demanded to be paid. Gordon had a 60% deposit before the event. We did not pay the rest. After our exchange, Gordon promised to refund additional money in the amount of $250 (email photo below showing that conversation). He has yet to deliver. We have asked for confirmation that the refund was sent, and we are seeing the same patterns of subterfuge and lies. He also lied that we did not give a gratuity to his partner for serving the food. We in fact did so, despite the horrendous service. He is unethical, unprofessional and untrustworthy. We will be using every vehicle available to make sure that is known to anyone who might seek to hire him. Happy to answer any follow up questions.Jun 12, 2017VerifiedGordon R. E.'s reply
My Apologies to my present and future prospective Clients for any of the services I provide. This commitment turned out to be the perfect storm for me, (As You'll See From Reading My Reviews) this was the maiden voyage for our new food truck. I was not able to be present on site as promised. In my opionion my clients were more upset with me not being present as I stated I would be. You will also recognize two things, the food was good and all were served as promised, also I'm a former Marine and my clints are both retired and active Marines. We tend to be much harder on each other and hold each other to much higher standards. The Bottom Line Here For Myself and For You. I will not let this happen again as my Gold Standard is much higher than is stated here. Please do not judge me or my standards based on this one review and learning experience for me. Thank You For Your Present and Future Business. Gordon aka White Wolf Chef.
The first two times, Gordon was fabulous. He was responsive, asked detailed questions about what my boyfriend and I like/dislike and made us a lovely 7-course meal (as shown by pictures) each time. The appetizers were thoughtfully made and he also used healthy ingredients without sacrificing the taste. He is a very good chef. And he was personable and pleasant in person. He asked me to write him a review on thumbtack and I wrote him a glowing review. Then, things started getting weird. The third time I hired him, he cancelled on the same day and told me a long story about how he hasn't been feeling very well due to a viral infection he had caught from his wife. I told him to get better and then we rescheduled for April 28th - 5pm. I confirmed with him 3-4 times the day before and on the day of. He wanted to push it back to 7pm. He kept asking me if we should just reschedule which I declined. And then at 6pm, he said he was ready to head out but there was way too much traffic. He wanted to wait out the rush hour traffic and come a little bit later. I said that's fine and we agreed that he'd arrive at 8pm. 30 minutes before he was supposed to show up, he messages me saying that he's actually at another event and won't be able to make it. (I attached the screenshot of this conversation) So he double-booked without telling us, LIED about the fact that he was ready to head out, hoped that I'd tell him we should just reschedule instead of having a late dinner (after we basically waited for 3 hours thinking he was driving through "traffic"), and then when I called his bluff, he just cancelled at the very last minute. I'll be fair - he's a fantastic chef. But If you are looking for someone reliable or someone you want to hire more than once, I'd say beware. Don't commit if you can't make it or be clear about your schedule / constraints. Don't make your customer wait around for 3 hours by lying to them.Apr 29, 2017VerifiedGordon R. E.'s reply
