Ray Mugford's Home Remodeling- #1 in Drywall Repair
About this pro
Made an appointment for an estimate but he never showed up nor did he answer our calls and text messages. I would never use him because he appears to be unreliable. I'm sorry for your loss but you still could have communicated via a simple text, call or message instead of having us wait all day for you.Dec 17, 2017VerifiedRaymond M.'s reply
This person did not hire me nor leave a message if she called. I was not able to call due to the nature of the emergency. I certainly hope they never lose a child.
I lucked up on using Ray after a previously hired contractor failed to meet me at my home for a scheduled estimate consultation. So, I was forced to look elsewhere for a contractor. Since I faithfully use Thumbtack, I had other inquiries about the job I needed done and Ray was one of those inquiries. I emailed/texted him and told him the job I needed done and even sent him some pics. An appointment was made for him to come by my house to look at what I needed done ( repairs to drywall of my garage ceiling). Ray was EARLY to the appointment (which was nice because I am a stickler for being on time, if not early). I laughed and mentioned that he was early and told him about the previous contractor that didn't show. He stated that he does not like wasting another person's time, which happens to be a mantra that I live by. So, we are already off to a good start. Ray gave me a little bit about his background and his work history, which is always nice so that one can get an idea about the person they are hiring. Ray surveys the ceiling and explains what will need to be done in order to complete the repairs. We agreed on a price, which I have to say was a bit more than I wanted to pay BUT he offers a 1 year guarantee on all his work and since I have been using Thumbtack for quite some time now, I have never run across anyone offering a 1 year guarantee on their work. So, we make plans for him to come out to do the repairs after I put down a deposit. He gives me a receipt for the deposit which states how much the remaining balance will be after completion. Ray showed up ON TIME to start the repairs. I wasn't feeling well, so I just left him to his work while I went back to bed. The first day he was at my place maybe 5 hours. He had to return the next day to finish the job, which was fine. Once again, I left him to his work and he was finished in about 6 hours. I was very impressed with the care and time that he spent to make sure the job was done right. I am thrilled that my garage ceiling has no holes in it. Ray did mention that he also does plumbing and electrical work as well. So, I might take him up on his offer. Even though he is a Patriots' fan ( he's from Boston..BOO PATRIOTS!!!!!!) I still would hire him again......lolFeb 7, 2017VerifiedRaymond M.'s reply
Thank you So much for your business and your review Yvette. It was a pleasure doing your project. As far as the Super Bowl, you probably would not havej believed me if I told they were going to win.....even if I told you that in the first quarter. LOL. Thank you again. - What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?Typically we charge by the job. We find that this allows us to give the best prices possible.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?Typically we charge for labor only. How we prefer to work is that we pick up the materials, mostly at Home Depot, even if you pick them out, we pick them up for you. This allows the customers full control over product quality and design.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I hold many certificates in the various trade, subject but not limited to mold remediation, energy conservation, General Building Inspector to name a few.
