- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
First contact is usually through a free phone consult. We get an idea of the troubles and concerns in the home, while also getting a chance to talk to one another, then we move on to an evaluation. Typically I first meet and discuss with the client the needs and issues at hand. Then we do an in depth question and answer, which allows me to assess the situation. At this time, I will then meet your dog and develop a plan to move forward. Dogs and humans think differently. Often there is a misunderstanding which can be confusing. Helping both canine and handler have a different understanding of the issue, will at the very least, greatly improve every situation.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Having studied under some amazing trainers and instructors, at the largest comprehensive canine training facility in the world, as well as in a program designed to rehabilitate the most difficult of dogs, I do still consider myself a student. As long as I’m working on this field, I will continue to learn. Having worked with rescues, rehabs and pet owners give to my personal training experience, yet through the dogs themselves where I’ve learned the most. Each dog is different and each allows me a new experience to learn from. I do have a degree and am a certified canine training and behavior specialist, which is the foundation to my training. However, education is constant in the field of dog training. New dogs present new troubles. Classes, seminars, and workshops are constantly part of my continued learning. There are many different styles and techniques, as well as different problems to be worked on. My approach is in balanced training and techniques. Clear communication and a strong bond are always my beginning steps to any case. Whether basic obedience, or advanced behavior modification, it all begins with the canine handler relationship.
