I chose Brothers Portillo because their quote was fair — not cheap but not high, either — and they could start the job the same day and finish it the next. It was a small job: walls and ceilings in a bathroom and kitchen. No need to paint cabinets or any trim. They finished the job later that first evening, and we paid them. Upon closer inspection, the job in the kitchen — where an apprentice had been working — was very unprofessional. Several several edges were not cleanly done at all. One entire section of ceiling above a row of cabinets was missed. Paint was splattered on the floor. Brushes were left in the sink. And they even used some of our brushes that we'd had out from the work we'd been doing. We contacted Mr Portillo the next day. He said he'd return that afternoon, a Tuesday, and make everything right. We couldn't meet him that day. He agreed to meet us later in the week, on Friday afternoon. When I contacted him on Friday, he said he'd had car problems and couldn't make it. He said again he was sorry and wanted to make things right. He said he'd come over between 9 and 10 Sunday morning. He didn't show and didn't respond to text messages. It's too bad. The job in the bathroom was fine. But the kitchen was a different story and Mr. Portillo left us high and dry on making it right. I'd add photos here, but the Thumbtack app isn't letting that happen.
