When we were planning our ceremony, the details such as location, decorations, "The dress", etc. all seemed to fall into place. We had ideas of what we wanted, and were able to make arrangements easily. However, when it came to who would officiate the ceremony, we weren't quite certain where to start. Honestly, neither of us is very religious, per se, but we are both spiritual. Not being from the area, and not having a home-based church, we weren't sure where to start. A co-worker of mine at the time suggested that I contact Pastor Jan. She was highly-recommended, and my friend thought that she would be willing to work with us. She did just that!
We met several times in the months prior to our ceremony. She wanted to get to know Greg and I (and Greg's son,) our situation, and to determine if she felt comfortable in blessing our relationship. She had us complete a variety of pre-marital exercises, and discussed our answers with us.
For the ceremony itself, Pastor Jan was open to amending some of the traditional ceremonial phrases. She also wrote a special part into the ceremony to include Greg's son in the union. It was a beautiful day, and we are very grateful to have had someone so invested in making it so very special.
