FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I hold a bachelor's degree in mass communications and a master's in education. Photography was part of my undergraduate degree plan, and I worked as a sports journalist after graduating, including taking my own photos. I have taken many additional classes in photography, both online and in person, and continue to learn from influential photographers all over the country who push me to improve my craft daily. I recently attended Precision Camera's University weekend, where I studied under the amazing and successful women photographers Tracie Moglosky, Kara Mercer, and Monica Royal.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
While working as a journalist, I wrote and took photos for newspapers. I taught high school English for a decade after that, but kept taking pictures on the side. After having my second child, I decided to stay home. I started my photography business in 2017 once both of my kiddos were in school all day and I could devote my time and passion to creating beautiful portraits for clients.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
Ask questions!!! Photographers create images for a living - we know this stuff in and out, so use that knowledge to make better decisions for yourself and your project! Make sure your photographer is a legitimate business. This means they are insured, they pay state sales tax, and pay taxes on their photography income. Always ask for a contract! The contract protects both you and the photographer by setting all the expectations and spelling out exactly what is included in your transaction. It will have details about date, location, work to be done by each party, images included (or not), and delivery of products and digital images.
