FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I generally charge $60 an hour unless a student is willing to come to my home studio which is outfitted with a full drumset, vibraphone, keyboard, guitars, basses amps and a recording studio setup. Feel free to contact me if you'd like to negotiate.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I always start by asking about a new student's experience in music. What if any other instruments they've played and in what context. I also always make sure to find out what style(s) they're interested in playing as I believe it's very important for students to feel like their teacher is catering lessons to their musical goal and ambitions. I'd then find something we could play together that they feel comfortable with or if they've never played before show them some fundamentals that we could turn into a song that they'd recognize by the end of the lesson. I also "check-in" with my students regularly to make sure they're comfortable. All of this is done with the intention of making my students feel at ease with me and with the subject matter.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory of Music where I studied Jazz Composition with a number of renowned musicians and educators. The past two years, I've also taught music and recording arts full time at Fusion Academy Warner Center, a private high-school and part time at The Windward School.
