Mary Kate Flannery is the epitome of professionalism, dedication and passion for her art and work. She had great ideas and paid attention to detail in bringing my vision to life. She was a joy to work with and I would absolutely recommend her time and time again!Mar 22, 2018
Mary Kate has the unique capability of taking a vague description of a concept and turning it into exactly what her clients desire and envisioned. I was blown away at her ability to create exactly what I was looking for with such a modest budget. Exceptional design, professionalism and value. I would recommend Mary Kate to everyone I know looking for interior design.Feb 25, 2018

- What is your typical process for working with a new customer? When first meeting you, we have a 2-hour consultation where I get to know you, your space and find out the scope of work you would like help with. I also take photographs and measurements at this appointment should I need to create a 3D model of the space. This model allows you to see what your space will look like, creates a guide for our design process, and helps us determine the best size for furniture pieces, among other things. It's also much easier to change a wall color in a computer if you don't like it than on your walls! Once the model is created and you are happy with the design, the fun part begins - shopping! We can shop together, I can bring options to you, or you can let me surprise you. My involvement in this step is determined by you. If you wish, I am able to be involved in managing the project as well. I can meet with subcontractors and act as your liaison, manage the purchasing, delivery and installation of furniture, window treatments, etc. Again, the level of involvement is at your discretion.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I studied interior design at the Design Institute of San Diego and have 7 years working experience. Most recently, I worked for one of Southern California's most liked design firms. Hired as an executive assistant while still in school, by the time I left I was the Director of Project Management: working as a staff designer and overseeing other designers/project managers and our client's as a whole. Schooling is important, but there is nothing like real-world experience! Funnily enough, we never had a class in design school on what do to when a vendor patches a dry wall hole, trapping the family cat inside (true story - the cat was a little scared but fine).
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work? The most important thing when hiring a designer is how they make you feel. Liking a designer's previous work is important but interior design is a very intimate process, we get to know our client's and their lifestyles very well. Make sure you meet with a designer before agreeing to a contract and they are someone you are comfortable with and they listen to what you want. Also, please remember when getting our quotes and thinking it's expensive, know that what you see is only the tip of the iceberg. There is a lot more going into the designs of your spaces than you can imagine - remember how big those icebergs are under the surface! Please know we want to charge what is fair to both you and us. If you have questions about our pricing - just ask. And if our quote is out of your budget, tell us and we can probably find a way to work together.
