Introduction: Greetings! I have been teaching and performing consistently for over 30 years. I believe both aspects of the art (performance and transmission) are deeply entwined: it is important to stay in touch with what one teaches, and important for the artist to transmit his (her) skills and knowledge. I also believe that every student is different from the next. Therefore I pay close attention to every one of my students’ specific needs, and will adapt my approach accordingly.

Jean-Paul approaches teaching with an aim toward creating a well-rounded musician. He teaches reading, rhythm, finger dexterity, improvisation, and ear training. He works in all music styles, following the student’s interests, yet ensuring they stay on track with all styles of music, from classical to blues. My son has been studying with Jean-Paul steadily for 3 years, and his love for music and playing has grown with each year. I highly recommend Jean-Paul for any age student, whether child or adult. He works from a place of mutual respect and fun, but also with the underlying understanding that learning an instrument requires discipline and focus. My son (now 10) is not only nurturing his love for music, he is also learning how focus and regular practice pay off over the long term. We recommend Jean-Paul without reservation and with great enthusiasm!

Owen is such a great kid, and yourself a great mom, who helped him staying focused with his practicing. And now look at him, doing it on his own! Such progress in a few years, so rewarding to teach him!!

I absolutely loved working with Jean-Paul Monsché. Having been a student of his for ten years I can say that he is truly one of a kind. He is one of the most patient and kind teachers I have ever had. What sets him apart is his unique ability to connect with his students and teach them not only what they need to learn to be successful musicians, such as scales and how to read music, but he also teaches students what they want to learn. From Beethoven to the Beatles to the blues I have no doubt that JP can teach it all, and you will enjoy the time you spend learning it.

Thanks for the kind words Matthew! It’s been a great 10 years indeed. I wish you didn’t have to move away to college. Miss you my friend!

Jean-Paul is a talented, professional musician, and a great teacher. He brought warmth and enthusiasm to every lesson. My son studied piano with him for several years, and enjoyed every minute. I couldn't recommend him more highly.

Jean-Paul taught my son Joey for about two years. His lesson plan was always clear but he still made it fun for him. Joey went away to school and continued to play while away (even joining a band!) I highly recommend Jean-Paul

Thanks Tony! Clear and fun, yes! So happy Joey stuck with it. Mission accomplished, and music to my ears!

Jean-Paul has an incredibly unique approach to teaching. I have never seen a music teacher pay such close attention to a student’s reactions to music and adjust the lesson plans so mindfully and intentionally. I have spent many hours eavesdropping during my son’s lessons over the years, and there is no doubt in my mind that Oliver’s self-confidence, his improvement with focus at school, and the joy and humor with which he approaches his own musicality are a result of his studies with Jean-Paul. I love hearing the end of each piano lesson, when the two of them sit on the bench and improvise blues together. Jean-Paul will call out which key to play and they will riff off each other for 10 minutes and really get into a groove. He is an incredible teacher, gifted in the art of transmitting the joy of music to each of his students. Can’t say enough good things! Jean-Paul is a music whisperer!
