Julian is a great teacher, and a phenomenal musician. He was always very willing to dive into whatever I wanted to learn, and gave really useful insights into every part of the music production process. He has extensive experience in tons of areas of music, and has worked with enough great musicians to know exactly how to get to any musical destination. He was always reasonable about payment and prices, and our lessons always felt more like a hang than a business transaction. Would highly recommend.Mar 9, 2018

Julian taught lessons at my business in Ann Arbor, MI. He is one of our best drum teachers, to date. He's knowledgeable, talented, professional, respectful, kind, responsible, and fun. He's the whole package!Dec 21, 2017
Julian is an excellent drum teacher, especially when learning technique & limb independence! He adapts lessons to your greatest areas of interest, which makes lessons much more fun. He has also been essential for learning songs to play with my jam band.Dec 6, 2017
Julian is a magnificent musician and obviously loves what he is doing. I took lessons with my son and we have very different ways of learning and Julian made every effort to customize our experience to reflect that style of learning. I also found Julian's positive energy to be contagious and always left our lessons feeling excited for the next one. I highly recommend him.Dec 6, 2017

- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?I can do sliding scale . Depending on distance from me , and amount of time for the lessons I can range from $30 for a 30 minute lesson , and upwards .
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer? At first I try to get a sense of where the person is coming from , and where they would like to go , musically. Then I tailor our lessons to that . If it is a lesson , I will aim to incorporate some mixture of technique and fundamentals , written and aural theory , percussion / drum set grooves, fills, learning of songs , and creative exploration . If I am working on songwriting or production with a client , I will listen to the client’s goals , and help to guide or reinforce their work along the way to achieving the creation , or progress they are truly wanting . I believe that making music should feel good , and feel fun — so I prioritize that over all things . But I am always happy to adjust my attitude if , for example , a client wishes to use our time together in a unique way that they find most helpful. In any case , i hope to make the sessions fun, but always to make progress toward the client’s goals.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I have a BFA in Music (Jazz & Contemplative Studies) from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. I have taught group lessons in percussion , songwriting , Pop/Rock and Jazz, and Music business . At any given time in my teaching career , I have worked with up to 60 students in a week .
