Danna does more than teach my kids chess. She brings her love for the game and her love for my kids into our home. She is able to relate to them in a way that empowers them and gets them to sit for an hour and do chess - it's magic. They also will pull out the board on the weekend because they wan tot play chess on their own. Danna is teaching the kids chess, but also helps me as a busy mama strength their respect for themselves and others. She uses her jedi mind tricks to build their confidence and overall attitude. Danna was meant to work with kids. She is the rare human who has found their passion ( children, education and chess) and is able to share it with the world. My kids will be better grown ups out in the world not for knowing the game of chess, but for the life skills and love that Danna shared with them.

Danna has been working with our two boys in chess for four years and the experience has been just incredible for them! Not only have they learned how to play chess, and continue to gain mastery, they learn about logic, persistence, patience, kindness, self-awareness and basically all sorts of great things along the way. Our youngest started when he was 3 (now the boys are 7 and 11). Danna has a very individualized style of coaching and manages to keep the boys' focus and attention - she does not try to talk down to them or make the game kid-ified. This is real chess - real skills and logic puzzles. To Danna chess is a life skill - and there is so much about the game that speaks to kids in very positive ways. Danna herself is just lovely - reliable, great at communication, full of light and love. The boys really enjoy their time with her and have learned so much. She is a treasure! I highly recommend her as a chess teacher for all ages.

In addition to being highly skilled at teaching chess to youngsters, she is incredibly patient, creative, adaptable, observant, perceptive of minor nuances or adjustments that need to be made to best maximize the youngster’s learning experience. I can’t say enough about Dana. I only wish that we had more teachers as kind, astute and skilled as Ms. Dana. Also, she gives great feedback / motivational constructive criticism to the kids, leaving them with an appetite for more. In short, she’s simply amazing.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a B.S. in Mathematics. I have worked in Education, as well as, Academic Intervetion and Enrichment in Public, Private and Charter Schools for 12 years. I connect well with students of all ages and backgrounds. I am an award winning public speaker and communicator.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I started out by getting lessons for my son, which re-acquainted me with a game that I had totally dismissed. My work began as a Manager Of Outreach and Marketing for the Train Of Thought Chesstrain Education Company. There I handled amongst many tasks photography and socia media. I soon became captivated watching the eyes of students light up when they learned something. I could see students ‘see and understood’ what to do, do it and see it be effective “the best choice” for that moment. It’s a satisfaction that transcends age and uncovers energy and delight.
What types of customers have you worked with?
I have worked publicly, privately and semi privately with students from TK - 12th with students of diverse nationalities and cultures.
