FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Our pricing is typically calculated on a time and materials basis. Basic welding, for example, would typically be billed at a rate of $50 per hour in half hour increments for in-shop work. Custom art or furnishings would be calculated based on time and materials based on factors including design, CNC machining, finishing and materials.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
All new client engagements start with a consultative discussion. In many situations the need is straightforward and simple to communicate. In those instances it's easy to provide a quick quote and often complete the project same day. In instances where the needs are more complex, such as the commission of a piece of custom artwork, or creation of a piece of heirloom quality furniture, we need to understand what you're looking for down to the smallest detail. Often the creative process will involve the creation of multiple design revisions until everyone has a complete understanding of the scope of work. At the end of the day, everyone needs to be on the same page to ensure client satisfaction with the finished product!
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
My (John P.) formal education includes full time welding school, Blacksmithing and Bladesmithing schools, CAD/CNC college courses, Power Hammer school, and a number of other industry specific programs. I studied Bladesmithing under four different Master Bladesmiths, spent a year under the instruction of a Master Welder, had one on one instruction with one of the world's greatest Blacksmiths, and have had the opportunity to travel and study all over the world.
