I have over a decade of experience in HR and learning and organizational development, where I gained expertise in recruitment and selection and professional development coaching. In addition to hiring my own staff as a manager, I have sat on numerous shortlisting and interview panels as an independent. I gained a government qualification in recruitment and selection and went on to teach the same qualification to others for two years. I have also worked extensively with people wishing to change roles or improve in their current role, coaching them to identify their strengths, areas for improvement, passions, etc. and helping them craft resumes that reflect these. My experience both as a recruiter and as a job hunter has given me unique and valuable perspective on both sides of the process. I have also been through the process of a successful mid-career change, moving from HR in government to a development role in a national non-profit, as well as a freelance writing career. Finding a new job - whether it's a straightforward move to a similar role or a complete career change - is frequently stressful and it can be difficult to achieve the perspective needed to clearly see what it is you really want from your career and what strengths you bring to a new employer. I love being able to sit down and speak with someone - without even having to know about the sector they wish to work within - and tease out their passions, strengths, concerns and enthusiasm and then cement next steps, including writing a resume for them that clearly outlines all their valuable and unique qualities and skills.

- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?I base prices on level of employment sought and time needed to turn it around.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?My approach is very personal. I'm not a big, impersonal shop that just takes your existing resume and adds a few additional key words and a fancy font to make it look like it's brand new. I spend as much time as necessary communicating with my client - either online or by phone - to really understand what their ultimate job goal is and what message they want their resume to send. So the first step in my process is to ask the client the right questions so I have a clear understanding of what they've been doing professionally, where they want to go and how they'd like their resume to represent them. After that, it's pretty much a team process where I develop a draft, the client gives me open and honest feedback about it (it represents them and so I always want them to be happy and comfortable with it) and I make any changes until we get a product the client is happy with. A cover letter is also included.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I have a certificate in personnel practice from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and a certificate in leadership and management from the Institute of Leadership and Management (these are both industry-leading organizations in the U.K. where I lived for 15 years, before moving back home to the U.S.). I also have over ten years' on-the-job experience as an HR manager and as a recruiting manager, as well as numerous internal training courses. I also have a certificate in journalism and a bachelor's degree in writing from UMass Amherst, which gives me a good foundation in asking clients the right questions and pulling together all the pieces of their answers to form a coherent and engaging employment narrative for prospective employers.
