- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?I start with having the client send me their existing resume/work experience, tell me about what's prompted them to get some help with it, and email me some links to some jobs they could envision applying for, if that's its purpose. I use these example jobs to make sure I am highlighting the right skills and mirroring industry language. I will often need to ask them some clarifying questions around their work experience, just to get a better idea of their skills and experience and some context. Then I pull together a first draft, send it to the client for feedback/changes, incorporate those, polish it up and send them back a final draft. We then move on to the cover letter - which gets drafted and send to them for feedback and then back to me to finish up. I don't consider the job complete until the client is completely happy. All this can be done via the Thumbtack chat or email, but I'm always happy to do phone calls if that's the client's preference. Turn around is usually within five working days, dependent on client response time, or quicker for an additional fee.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I bring over a decade of experience in HR and professional development. This has included being a government certified trainer in recruitment and selection, assisting staff with writing resumes for internal positions and hiring my own staff as a manager. I have a certificate in personnel practice from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and a certificate in leadership and management from the Institute of Leadership and Management (these are both industry-leading organizations in the U.K. where I lived for 15 years before moving back home to the U.S.). My certificate in journalism and bachelor's degree in writing is from UMass Amherst and I am an experienced freelance writer.
