FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My standard price is $20 per half hour. If there are multiple students taking lessons in a family, the first student is charged the $20 and any additional students receive a discount. Lessons range in length from 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. Younger student lessons may be billed in15 minute increments. I am flexible in scheduling students and will make accommodation for special student needs as they arise.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I usually set up a meeting with potential students so that they may see the space and instruments that will be used for lessons. I explain what a typical lesson will look like and get a better idea about the students' past experience, interests and musical goals. I also explain the different types of instructional materials that will be used and how they are provided for the students. We may discuss special musical opportunities such as recitals, Federation, and other music competitions.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a bachelors's degree in special education and am certified to teach music to students in preschool through grade 8 in school settings. This is reflected in my Wisconsin state teaching license. in 1999 I received a Kodaly Certificate from Silver Lake College in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. This certification reflects the training I received in teaching students to obtain music literacy through singing. Special emphasis was placed on vocal technique, sight singing, and the use of good literature. I have been a church organist since the age of 11 and currently serve as the music director and primary organist for my church. I direct a handbell choir and adult vocal choir in this setting. I especially enjoy grooming more advanced students for work in accompanying groups in church or choir settings.
