I reached out to Brenda for some guidance and advice on grantwriting, with an eye towards future opportunities, and she was generous with her time and her insight. She seems like a true pro!Jun 16, 2018Verified

This was to be a 1 hour phone consultation only as per the customer. The customer than said they wanted me to give them "real" grant writing responses that I had previously written for other customers. I explained to him that I could not give him any of my completed templates as those were written for other clients and I have Non Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) with all of my clients which prohibit me sharing that information with anyone but the specific client. Apparently this customer didn't understand that I was unable to give him my completed work bc of legal ramifications and was unhappy with my answer of no. I stand by my NDA's and my clients that I work with, and I would never give away the work I have done for other clients to someone else for free. That is not the industry standard to give away work that someone else paid for or proprietary information and I will stand by my answer of never giving away my proprietary templates to anyone except the client I write them for. Thank you.

- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?I have priced proposals for living in both commercial and gov't arena's for over 20 years and it is my job to know what the going hourly rate is for almost every position in the workplace. When I make my bids on Thumback, please know I am offering you a fair and honest rate for the work you are asking me to price. Others will just be guessing at what the hourly rate should be. I know what the hourly rate is because it is my job to know as I write gov't RFP project responses to these types of jobs corporately on a daily basis. I always try to provide a discount to you that will be reflected in my bid rate, as I am a small business owner myself and understand the cash flow struggle. I understand the limitations you are under financially to get the best product at an affordable rate. I try to provide that to you every time I bid.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?I begin by having a telephone discussion after the customer shows interest in my services. We will discuss the project requirements, the project schedule and the project cost at that time. Once we start working together, I am able to work independently without supervision and will come to my customer contact via email or phone (whichever is preferred by customer) for questions and clarification. I will usually supply a draft of my work to the customer for review and updates are made several times until the customer is satisfied with the end product. I request a deposit be made (will be determined based on total price of project) and then full payment will need to be made upon receipt of invoice.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I have a BS Degree in Communications and Business. I have written all types of government responses and quote materials. I have also done sales and marketing materials for Freddie Mac customers and have written customer training materials and taught two day courses for Freddie Mac customers. It takes an average of 8-10 years to learn how to do government proposals (both technical and cost/pricing responses). I have done all back office accounting and billing functions as well for all areas of project program control, invoicing and contract/project set up et all for government and commercial contracts. I am proficient on Deltek CostPoint and all Microsoft products.
