FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
For high school classes of any level, honors or AP, I charge 15 dollars an hour flat for one-on-one tutoring. If in a group of 2 or 3, $10 per person, per hour. For college math (not past pre-calculus), introductory biology and chemistry, philosophy, and economics, I charge 15-25 dollars per hour, depending on the specific class you are taking. For SAT I, SAT II, ACT and CBEST tutoring, prices will vary on the frequency that we meet and the depth of the help you need. I do have plans in place you can ask about that range from 20-35 dollars an hour.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
To start, id like to state that I strongly prefer to do initial consultations, which are usually 30 minutes to an hour, in public. (I am sorry, but I had an incident before and I will not be meeting you for the first time in your home.) When meeting a client for a first time consultation, I get to know the client's educational background and future ambitions first. Then I start to ask about the class you are looking for help in now. This is so that I can gauge how you are feeling about the class. After that, I ask you about interests and hobbies so that I can start getting idea of what subjects to relate your class to, in order to deepen your understanding by relating new concepts to things you already know. After this, we can immediately go into a first session so that we can see how we work together and then I like to try to discuss any long term tutoring plans/schedules.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Bachelors of Science in Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics from UCLA, which I received in 2014. I have been tutoring and teaching for the past three years. I was a long term replacement teacher with Moreno Valley Unified School District for two years, which meant that I took over teaching a class while a teacher is out for an extended amount of time. During this time I taught a wide range of classes, from Special Education Math to intigratedmath levels 1-2 and Pre-Calculus, all the way to Economics and English. I've basically taught everything but history and PE. I was planning on becoming a high school science teacher, but I have recently decided that I wold be a better fit at a community college or Cal State, so I am applying next round to get masters degree. The money I make tutoring is going to be my application fees fund.
