Introduction: I'm a singer/songwriter who recently relocated to Nashville from Brooklyn, NY. I've been teaching since 2006, in addition to writing and performing my original music as well as singing backing vocals for various artists such as Miley Cyrus, Allen Stone, Amos Lee, Sheryl Crow, The Roots, and more.
I hold a B.F.A. in vocal performance from The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in NYC and teach beginning, hobbyist singers all the way through to working, professional singers. The most important thing that I like to work on with voice students is helping them find their own distinct voice and how to use it to the best of its abilities. That involves developing their technique, vocal health and an overall familiarity with how your voice functions.
When it comes to teaching piano, I work with beginner students and like to work from a workbook of some kind with my students. I've used books such as the "Bastien Series" and "Dozen A Day," in addition to other repertoire books.
In addition to playing, some of my students like to compose original music which I highly encourage and help foster if that's something they desire to do.
I'd love to talk to you more about what you or your child is looking to achieve through taking piano or voice lessons!
I love seeing "light bulb" moments in my students; those moments when something they've been working on finally clicks and forever changes how they approach making music. It's a really incredible thing to see and so rewarding to help people find their own unique musical voice.
