Adrian is one of the most talented people that I've been lucky enough to learn from. Just talking with him about jiu jitsu totally changed my perspective of it, and made me a much better grappler. This was before I even took a lesson from him. He has a very unique way of thinking, and is able to break down the seemingly endless number of techniques we learn into simple concepts that apply everywhere. It's a more abstract way of thinking that you won't get from many other instructors. He's also really good at adjusting to the level of the person he is teaching. He will match your skill level while rolling, and guide you to the right positions (while still making it feel like a fight). Once you start to understand his approach to jiu jitsu, your game will explode. I can't recommend him enough!

my BJJ life; tortured at times, pleasant at others, and finally.... enjoyable beyond belief I started myBJJ life very soon after BJJ came to the US in the early 90's... my instructor from another discipline got involved and suggested it so I joined RCJ Machado Jiu Jitsu in Encino.. It was fun and different and wild and crazy and at times out of control and way too aggressive... (in the early 90's it was half BJJ and half MMA without anyone knowing it) Besides taking general classes I took some privates with Jean Jacques and John, and a few with Roger and Carlos... the instruction was detailed and enjoyable although not engaging enough to "see" the jits. things evolved, life got busy and I was gone.... my next excursion was at Carlson Gracie BJJ in Westwood, at that time I was rolling with a 16 year old named Vitor Belford... the instruction was almost non existent as they were trying to figure out the business side of the school. That academy didn't last to long and I was out of BJJ once again... I found Dartanian BJJ and went for a while although off and on and nothing consistent... the instruction was good, detailed but not consistent... the format changed often from being appealing to all comers to being hardened for warrior types wanting to smash HARD... After a 12 year break... (although only in body) I found my way back to BJJ... another school, more evolved training, details, theory, and nonlogical explanations as to the how and why.... again more time away then on the mat lead me to the sidelines.... One of the instructors from the last academy, Adrian invited me to his house to roll with a group of friends and it was great, peaceful fun engaging... the few rolls I was invited to reminded me that Adrian was the reason I was staying at the last school as long as I did and my desire for BJJ was back. I started taking privates with Adrian 4 months ago and I can tell you that for the FIRST time in all my BJJ experience someone is speaking jiu jitsu in a language I can hear... I'm not going to go into details of how he is teaching what he is teaching but I will say that Adrian has ZERO attitude ZERO ego ZERO negative.... he actually WANTS people to really GET Jiu Jitsu, he really WANTS people to get better, develop a deeper understanding of movement, he really wants people to have fun rolling. My understanding of movement has grown in leaps and bounds in the last few months, my ability to "see" Jiu Jitsu and connect the movements has evolved at a fever pace... is some of that my ability? of course it is.... however the attention to what actually matters, and the knowledge base that Adrian has AND offers is a MAJOR factor. Is this sounding like a commercial for Adrian? yeah I don't care... this guy is good, he doesn't want to string you along giving you just enough to keep you coming back year after year grinding you for dues... he gives you the goods and THAT keeps me coming back.

Top notch coach, finds your weaknesses and plays to them adequately. Emphasizes on technique over strength and had great experience on wrestling and ground. Most importantly, adrian can verbalize and recognize when you're not understanding something correctly

Adrian embodies every definition of a martial artist. He is fluid and flexible with obstacles on and off the mats. He's warm and welcoming to anyone who flies the flag of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He treats all his students as serious grapplers whether it's their first day on the mats or their thousandth. He believes in family, community and he's a man I'm grateful to have called coach and honored to continue to call friend.
