completed all of the repairs listed in your request and my initial proposal. I even took on additional work to correct multiple existing substandard installations. I tried to reach out to you today to ask for some feedback because i thought i did an excellent job under some very tight physical circumstances and the owner seemed very pleased. You didn't respond. As a summary, the initial job was to install a dishwasher, an over the range microwave and install 2 vanity sinks and faucets and a kitchen faucet to existing plumbing and ventilation. I had expected to complete it all on a Sunday. I was assured everything was good to go. When i arrived I saw otherwise. It was a mess. Somebody tried and failed to do simple cabinetry install. his cutouts for electrical, plumbing and ducting were horrible and it cost me hours to correct it. The disposal was supposed to be ready for plumbing the dishwasher and drain and it fell off after a 1/4 turn to accept the drain line. it was a mess and cost me 2 hours to cutout and properly install a disposal. So I cut out access to install disposal and installed it. To make the customer happy. I installed the faucet and dishwasher and new plumbing. I moved on to the master bathroom sink install. I found that the holes cored in the custom quartz were wrong. they were 2 inch when specs called for 3 1/2. I ordered those diamond bits special order and cored those holes saving you hundred$$$. I also noted that you purchased the wrong drain tailpipe configuration. you purchased the standard sink with overflow but purchased a vessal sink with no overflow. That cost me an hour waiting for the correct parts. You hired me to correct shoddy work, your tile guy quit, your handyman quit, i fixed it and you give me 3 stars for my punctuality. I give you 2 stars for being over your head and accepting shoddy work. I will never work for you again but thank you for your opportunity. At least the customer is happy and i work for him.
Came out very fast and finished then project quicker than what I expected. Great communication. Thanks!Jul 30, 2018Verified
Do not hire this worker. They will quote you a low price and then hike up the rate drastically upon hiring. They are extremely unprofessional and not worth your time.Sep 30, 2018VerifiedSteven W.'s reply
For the record, the person posting this review did not hire me. I declined the job based on our conversation. She only marked as such to leave a bad review. September 9th she submitted a request for TV mount. Then she called to explain it was to be a floating mantle over a fireplace. I asked her for picture of the installation site and the mantle. 2 weeks passed before I heard from her again this past Monday. I reiterated I needed the pictures for a proper quote. She finally sent me 2 pictures of a piece of lumber with a coat of poly on it. Manufactured mantels of this type generally require drill press jigs and router jigs to achieve professional installation. The holes drilled for the rods and channels routed underside for fasteners to lock it in. Then the installation would require exact drilling through stone/tile over brick. Then setting threaded rod into epoxy. After that has set, return to mount the mantle and hardware. Hardly a simple task. So I declined the project. I did offer her some advice about providing exceptional service to customers and realistic rates charged by tradesmen like woodworkers and carpenters. To her the industry standard is $25/hour?
Great experience with him! Highly recommend and will likely call in the future. (Tv mount)Sep 11, 2018Verified

- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?I offer standard pricing for all of my services. Some are flat rate, some are hourly. ALL are backed by a 100% satisfaction guarantee. I offer a 10% military discount. I offer a 10% multiple item discount. In some cases where it is a simple task or correction I offer that for free. If the customer wants to negotiate a mutually agreed upon price I am always open to it.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer? The biggest challenge my business faces on Thumbtack.com is that customers do not realize that the Pros are charged a fee to respond to their "free" request. How it happens: the customer simply puts out a request for free, 5 pros pay a fee to respond to the request and the customer picks the lowest price, never contacts all of the professionals who paid to bid on them and doesn't realize the negative impact it has. Thumbtack.com If the customer never contacts the competing bidders how can they know they found the right one? They can't. The $29/hr guy is either going to milk the clock, up-sell or add charges on the back end. In the perfect setting, a customer submits a free request, I pay Thumbtack to contact that person and we communicate. For the above mentioned scenario it happened to me today. A $39 tech saw a train wreck of a freezer that was frosted over, smelled like heck, told the owner it would cost $500 to fix. Buy a new one. It cost $10 for the part and $139 for me to fix it. He was gonna spend $90 to throw it away so he can buy another one for $600? Again, experienced professionals will save you time and money. The customer should call me or text me directly, outside of the application or website. After scheduling an appointment I will arrive on time and review the work to be done. At that point I can give a written proposal and complete the work. I will give an invoice at that time and can take cash, credit card or check. It's as easy as that. All of my work is backed by 100% satisfaction guarantee. You will note that I have over 100 reviews. Almost all are in the 5 star range. The 1 star reviews are for jobs I decided not to take or scheduling/communication issues, not for work completed. If you have any questions please call me or visit my webpage at: handymanprosplus
