Introduction: I have a Bachelor of Music in Music Education and I teach lessons to students of all ages and ability levels. Contemporary composers, injury prevention, music technology and adaptive lessons are some of my major areas of interest! I hold 4 Oklahoma teaching licences: K-12 vocal music, speech/drama/debate, English and social studies. I think all of these subjects and more should be part of everyone's musical education. I belong to professional music and pedagogy organizations and I have experience teaching music theory, composition, improvisation, stage skills, audition and exam prep, and ensemble playing in addition to individual and group lessons. I enjoy sharing a love of music every day. I get to encourage life-long learning and curiosity. I get to see students grow as musicians, performers, thinkers, team members and individuals. As a lessons teacher, I am able to follow their progress so much longer than I could as a classroom teacher, and I love connecting with students and their families. I am happy to provide frequent performance opportunities, including visits to nursing homes and assisted living facilities and more formal performances and festivals. Finding music that fits each student's interests, goals and abilities is something I love to do! Rarely does someone "stump the band," and when they do, I'm happy to experience learning someone else's favorite music!

I am an adult taking ongoing lessons with Kristin and am very pleased with them. I took a very limited amount of piano lessons when I was a child and so was starting almost from scratch, and Kristin was very good at evaluating where and how I should begin practicing and relearning all the terminology and symbols, so that by the end of the first session I was almost back to where I had been all those years ago. She has a bubbly personality, and she is capable of moving at a rapid pace to maximize your lesson time, though she doesn't force it. Her lesson space is bright and cheerful, with multiple instruments and enough space that it doesn't feel closeted in. She has a huge variety of learning books, to customize what works best for each student, and is very knowledgeable about the local music shops and music trade. She's been a great resource outside of lessons as a result. Kristin has a good online presence, as well, with a website for students to pay invoices, track lessons and schedule lessons, input practice notes, and a variety of other things, all of which are easy to use and quite useful. In short, I'm looking forward to my continuing sessions with Kristin!

I have searched high and low for a piano teacher. Thank goodness thumbtack helped me find the perfect fit for my beginner daughter. It's obvious that Kristin is passionate about music and has a true talent for working with children. We are so excited for this journey!

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

BILLING: I have a monthly flat-rate tuition. It includes 32 lessons from September through May, 4 group classes, all books and materials, several technology subscriptions which can be used at home, and many performances and events. This, my automated invoice emails, and my private studio website make planning, billing and scheduling very easy. CREDITS: There is a small fee reduction available for students who attend lessons before 4pm. I also give a referral credit when a current student brings someone they know into the studio. OPPORTUNITIES: I am happy to work with the MusicLink Foundation to provide lessons at a reduced rate to local students with demonstrated financial hardships and creative abilities.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I hold a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Oklahoma State University. I have an Oklahoma teaching license in four subject areas. I have played for over 18 years and taught lessons for over seven years. I perform, practice, prepare, plan and study to keep my skills current as I believe in life-long learning. I am actively working toward an NCTM certification! (Nationally Certified Teacher of Music)
