FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I am not locked into a standard pricing system. I try to keep my quotes simple, while at the same time flexible enough to fit most budgets. Rather than an hourly rate, I find a per-page rate (a page being approximately 350 words, double-spaced) works best for simple editing or proofing jobs. My per-page rate for simple line editing or proofreading is $10 per page, but can go as high as $25 per page depending on formatting, style, and technical demands. Writing and/or creating indices, bibliographies, Reference and Works Cited pages can be done for an additional cost. For writing services, I find quoting a per-job rate works best for my clients. My quote is based on my hourly rate and a reasonable time estimate for completing each job. I prefer to meet one on one with my clients so I can better understand the details and demands of a project before I submit a quote. My tutoring rate is $25 per hour. I work online with the majority of my students, either in real time or asyncronously. I do NOT write students' essays for them. My tutoring process begins with reading an essay assignment for organization, and style, then offering suggestions for improving clarity, conciseness, and readability. I then move on to mechanical errors like grammar and punctuation. I offer a variety of free resources to my students including MyWritery.com, an online writing lab with tools for learning basic essay writing concepts. My goal is not to just make my students' writing better, but to make them better writers. I'm always happy to lower my hourly rate for students with proven financial need.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
"Time is money" best describes my working process. It is important to me that the client and I have an easy relationship that allows for clear and open communication early on. My job is to write, not spend hours on the phone asking or texting questions about the job. I prefer regularly scheduled online meetings, either online or by phone, during which any problems with the project can be discussed and agreed upon. My process is simple. I provide my customers with a detailed cost estimate that also outlines what my customers can expect from me in the way of writing services. Included in the estimate is a timeline for completion of all services.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have the requisite writing degrees, including a BA in journalism and an MFA in English (with emphasis on writing). I also studied both British and Australian grammar and punctuation in order to better understand why the nuances of the King's English are sadly absent from American English. My real training is on-the-job training. No two writing projects are the same, each assignment must stand on its own, and I become a better writer with every word I write. I trained as an English writing tutor at Oklahoma State University, earning my certification hours from Oklahoma State University in 2012.
