Bennett and I worked together at South Metro Human Services for approximately a year and a half. I believe Bennett excelled at working with clients who experienced psychosis, negative symptoms of schizophrenia, and, especially, cluster B personality disorders. He consistently made clients feel heard and supported. Bennett also demonstrated skill in engaging clients in conversations that facilitated self-advocacy with external providers, and, when clients faced barriers to advocating for themselves, Bennett stepped in to make sure their concerns were addressed.
As a co-worker, Bennett was an incredible support and ally. As one of the few female employees on our team, I struggled a great deal with the experience of implicit and accidental sexism. I also came to this position fairly early in my recovery from my own experiences with depression and suicidal ideation and an eating disorder. Bennett was an amazing partner in this-- he validated my frustrations, problem-solved difficulties, called out other colleagues, and overall made going to work a happy and hopeful experience.
I cannot recommend Bennett Jones highly enough. As a co-worker in the mental health field, and as a friend and support person who filled a puedo-therapist role in my daily life, Bennett is a deeply compassionate and remarkably gifted listener, and working with him has enriched my life in ways I am still discovering, months after our working relationship has ended.
