About this pro
I'm a longtime, award-winning writer, reporter, editor, copy editor and digital content creator who can write nonfiction, news stories, magazine features, blog posts and any communication — letters, press releases, marketing copy — that requires clear, grammatical and persuasive language. I enjoy working with people to improve the quality, accuracy, clarity and effectiveness of their written expressions, drawing on my decades of experience with the written word. I have a deep, passionate interest in language and in subjects as varied as poetry, music, science, mathematics, history and pop culture and can bring to bear the vital context needed to make any writing stand out.
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?Generally hourly, negotiable, but in the range of $30 to $40 an hour.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer? The customer and I will discuss his or her needs, including the specifics of a job (length of a piece, subject matter, how much editing is required, etc.) and the deadline. We'll agree on an hourly fee (it's negotiable). If needed, I'll sign any contract or confidentiality agreement necessary. I'll do the work and deliver as requested (generally ahead of deadline). If a revision is necessary, I'll do two quick ones or one lengthy one as part of the initial agreement.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I have a bachelor's degree in English from Occidental College and graduate work in journalism and public relations at the University of Southern California. I have more than 20 years of experience as a reporter, writer and editor with major metropolitan newspapers, including the Los Angeles Times. I have another 15 years of experience as a digital content creator for companies such as NBC Universal, AOL and National Public Radio. I am expert in style matters through the Chicago Manual of Style and the AP Stylebook.
