Introduction: Mỹ Tâm (née Tammy Huỳnh) is a Vietnamese-American vocalist and composer that aspires to write music that unites her unique, diverse personal and musical experiences into compelling narratives. She holds the importance of storytelling as paramount and strives to write music that is intelligent, approachable, and empathetic. In May 2018, Mỹ Tâm received her B.M. in Jazz Studies, Vocal Performance from Temple University’s Honors College. She was initially accepted as a classical piano major but found herself more involved in and drawn to jazz. She had the privilege to study under noted jazz vocalist Sachal Vasandani and later, Sara Serpa. In 2017, Mỹ Tâm received a scholarship from the Diamond Research Scholars Program to research works by vocalist Jeanne Lee. Lee’s contribution to avant-garde jazz was what initially drew Mỹ Tâm to her work. In 2019, Mỹ Tâm was accepted to participate in the prestigious Banff Centre Jazz and Creative Music Program.

Tammy is professional and fun! She has lots of great ideas for practice and warm ups, and she really knows her music! We try lots of genres and work on different languages. I also appreciate her flexible schedule as I am a mom of 3 and work part time.

Tammy has been a great vocal teacher! I have definitely noticed a change in my voice and I have grown more confident with singing. Tammy has also been very patient with me as I didn’t have much musical training before starting lessons. I would 100% recommend her to anyone!

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Please ask about a free 45 minute consultation! Half-hour lessons are $30 and hour lessons are $60. If I am traveling to your home, there will be an additional travel fee added. All weekly lessons must be paid at the start of every month. Missed lessons by the student will not be credited back. Make-up lessons will be discussed on an individual basis. There will be no lessons on major holidays. Option for a make-up lesson will be available. This will be discussed on an individual basis.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
In 2013, she was accepted into the Boyer College of Music and Dance at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. She studied classical piano under the tutelage of Maria del Pico Taylor, Co-Founder of The Dorothy Taubman Seminar, for two years. She is now pursuing her B.M. in Jazz vocal performance and is currently studying under Sachal Vasandani. Additionally, she is studying Sara Serpa.
