Introduction: Reiki is a “hands on healing” technique that promotes relaxation, treats anxiety, and promotes healing. I am a med student so I always mention that from a scientific perspective touch releases a hormone called oxytocin, “the love hormone” which stimulates feelings of bliss, bonding, relaxation, and formation of trust. Oxytocin plays a big role in breastfeeding and explains why women who breast feed tend to feel a sense of calm while feeding (after it finally starts working that is!)
Reiki translates into “Universal Life” (Rei) “Energy” (Ki) and this practice is not affiliated with any religion but instead is just a form of energy work that seeks to connect practitioners to the life energy that is flowing through all of us. When we connect to this energy we have the ability to heal our energy and to strengthen and heal others.
I am a healer and I believe my purpose is to bring healing energy to the people around me. I love being a part of the amazing transformations in my patient's lives after just a few reiki sessions.
The Japanese have a practice called Kintusukuroi where broken pottery is repaired with gold, to remind us that these damaged parts can be rebuilt to be even stronger and more beautiful than before. I have come to believe that life’s purpose is not found in awards or recognition but in the quiet rebuilding of our broken parts, giving us the opportunity to repair the fragmented pieces in others.
