Introduction: As an experienced musician and performer, I have always loved to share music with others, whether through performing or teaching. I have been fortunate to study with wonderful teachers since an early age, and I find it very satisfying to work with students and help them learn more about music. I have performed along with my brother, Chris, in a wide range of settings, including performances in Europe and, in 2014, our Carnegie Hall debut. I have also worked with a wonderful range of teachers, including professors in New York City, Vienna (Austria), and Krakow (Poland). I greatly enjoy helping students build a love of and interest in music, and I strive to individualize my approach with different students, tailoring to their interests and styles. I have also worked with a wide range of students, young and old, beginner and advanced.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

My fee for a 60-minute lesson is $50. I also offer 30-minute lessons for $30, and 45-minute lessons for $40.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Johnny Rice is a young Polish-American musician. Both he and his brother Chris are accomplished artists as pianists, and also as cellists. They have performed extensively in the United States, in New York City, including their Carnegie Hall debut in 2014, and in such places as Chicago, Cleveland, Los Angeles, and in many parts of their native southwest region of the United States. Internationally, they have performed in Warsaw, Poland, where they were the featured artists at the June 2014 World Music Day celebration; Vienna and Salzburg, Austria; Munich, Germany; and Budapest, Hungary. Between the two of them, Johnny and Chris have been soloists with The Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Mesa Symphonies, as well as The Symphony of the Southwest. Their Carnegie Hall debut in 2014 followed each having been named a gold medalist at an international Chopin piano competition. The Rice Brothers feature a unique blend of classical music, Gospel, jazz, ragtime and boogie-woogie, along with a historical perspective of the great composers and the times in which they lived. They have performed in the widest range of settings, including concert halls, churches, schools and house concerts. Their performances and presentations have been enthusiastically received by audiences of all ages and from all walks of life. They are committed to the expansion of the audience for classical music, and toward this end, spend a great deal of time reaching out to members of younger generations. Johnny and Chris have studied in the private studio of Robert Hamilton, Steinway Artist and Professor of Piano at Arizona State University. In 2014, they pursued advanced studies in Europe with Johannes Kropfitsch, Director of Piano at The Vienna Conservatory. They were long-time students of Taki Atsumi, Professor of Cello at Arizona State University and, for 35 years, President of the American Cello Congress. They have worked in master class and more extended settings with artists such as cellist Mstislav Rostropovich, and Philip Kawin, Professor of Piano at the Manhattan School of Music.

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

I have worked with students ranging in age from about 5 years old to adult. I always try to work with a particular students specific goals and needs, and to foster an interesting and enjoyable atmosphere during lessons! As a former homeschooled student, I grew up with a great deal of attention on the importance of an individualized educational program, and I am very comfortable working with students from a wide variety of educational settings and approaches.
