Introduction: With over 20 years of experience in teaching voice and singing professionally, I have proven techniques that will develop your voice to its fullest potential and can be applied to various vocal styles, including opera, musical theater, baroque, jazz, cross-over and popular song. Students of mine have been accepted to top music schools, won competitions, earned scholarship money, successfully auditioned for renowned choirs and musicals, and been awarded professional contracts. I have Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in vocal performance from Indiana University. I accompany my students on the piano during their voice lessons. Getting to know my students and helping them solve their vocal issues is very meaningful to me. I enjoy putting my knowledge and expertise to use in the service of helping my students excel. I first contacted Elizabeth with trepidation. She’s a classically trained vocalist and I am a bass guitarist who simply wanted to sing a few songs with his rock band. But she took me seriously, gave me vocal exercises to improve my control, and within just a few months people were coming up to me to tell me how good I sound! I still have much to learn, but I no longer fear stepping up to the microphone. Elizabeth keeps the lessons interesting. We work on a variety of musical styles and I am always challenged and interested in the material. The exercises are very effective, and seldom does a week go by when I don’t feel like I have made improvements. I can’t recommend her highly enough.

Elizabeth has helped me work toward achieving the goals I set out when I first started working with her: to sing in a healthy, sustainable way to promote lifelong singing; to project better; and to generate a more consistent between my chest voice (in which I am most comfortable) and my head voice. I have achieved a really nice blended sound in my midvoice, can get rid of that "clunk" between voices when I practice and think about what I'm doing, and learned that I can sing both higher and lower than I thought I could. Elizabeth sings beautifully herself, and as a teacher she does an excellent job achieving a balance between providing a safe learning environment and pushing students to exceed their own expectations.

FAQs

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I charge $35 for a half-hour lesson, $70 for a hour lesson. Some students come for half-hour lessons, some come for hour long lessons. Most students come on a weekly basis. Students can pay for each individual lesson as they take them, or can pay in advance for as many as they would like. I have students who pay for two, four and eight lessons in advance as well as those who pay for each lesson separately. I accept checks and cash.
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I suggest that a new student come and take one lesson so we can meet, talk and work together to see how I can help them achieve their vocal goals. I am happy to offer new students a 45 minute lesson for the price of a 30 minute lesson, for the initial visit.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a Master's Degree and Bachelor's Degree in vocal performance from Indiana University. I have been singing professionally and teaching for over 20 years. I have performed as a soloist with professional opera companies and orchestras, as well as professional choruses, including the Lyric Opera of Chicago Chorus, the Grant Park Symphony Chorus and Music of the Baroque.
