Before you even finish reading this: hire Christy. Seriously. She is based in Texas, but we hired her for our wedding in Emeryville, CA and everything about working with her was incredible--her level of experience and expertise, her prompt and professional communication, her interactions with me and the vendors, her input and suggestions, her style and impeccable taste, her kindness, humor, and understanding, and her flawless execution of the wedding. And as if that weren't enough, she is so friendly, fun, and personable, that she was a joy to have at the event! So many guests have gone out of their way to comment on how impressed they were by her, and my father in law said that "The best money you spent on this whole wedding was hiring Christy!" A good event-planner contracts on tangible deliverables, but an exceptional event-planner delivers on intangible aspects of the occasion such as timing, accessibility and the ability to diffuse explosive situations and meltdowns. I am very lucky that I put my faith in Christy's hands. With only two months to plan a baby shower on top of having two families with divided perspectives, I knew that an event-planner was critical to orchestrate and execute the event. Designing the occasion with Christy was a breeze; her creative eye, fresh ideas, and attention to detail turned my vision into reality. Christy helped my husband and I determine the vision for our baby shower. She oversaw every detail leading up to and including the day of the event. My husband and I were able to whole heartedly celebrate our love, and enjoy welcoming our first baby girl with our friends and family. The best way to describe Christy is a magical fairy who makes your dreams come true and I will surely not hesitate to ask for her help with our next event.

If you want a flawless event, Christy Matthews Events is for you! I tapped Christy to handle "day of" wedding coordination, but ended up reaching out to her several times for her opinion and expertise in the months leading up to my event. Her industry knowledge and organizational skills were key to the success of my big day. And she was a joy to work with—warm, funny, caring, truly dedicated to making my wedding feel special. My only regret: Not paying Christy to do more!

FAQs

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My packages and planning services are completely custom. I have a 'menu' that breaks down things in an a la carte fashion, but the bulk of the package is built to suit the clients needs. A typical 'Month of Coordination' package runs $2000-$2500...but no wedding is 'typical', right? :)
What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I work diligently with the clients to make sure that the service agreement specifically outlines everything that I will be doing for them, as their planner, and what our expectations of each other are. You should LIKE your wedding planner! Personality matters. We need to see if we're a good fit. My clients trust me with all the details of their big day, and I honor that.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BFA in theater from UCSB - which I think I can attribute to my flair for the dramatic, appreciation of the grand gesture and love of the sentimental. I became a certified wedding consultant in 2008 through a 6 month extension program of Cal State. I was an assistant, I was mentored, I interned...I worked my way up in the wedding industry. I also have a service industry background and at almost every wedding I've done, I've cleared tables, poured wine, and bartended...at one time or another!
