Mr. Nollen got back to me right away and had my first lesson the same week. Looking forward to many more lessons! Easy commute from Ames.Feb 27, 2019Verified

Mr. Nollen is a very patient and knowledgeable teacher. Highly recommended!Jun 11, 2018
I was new to guitar when I started with Nollen Music Studio. During my first session we went through my prior music history and made goals to structure our sessions. While progressing through the program I was taught the basics of different genres, strum patterns, and chord progressions. I was also very excited about the expansive knowledge Mr. Nollen posesses. He helped me learn the style of music I enjoy playing all while instilling a creative flair to take my writing to the next level. I would highly recommend Nollen Music Studio.Jun 27, 2018
Russell was great to work with and took the time to help you understand ways to keep improvingJun 14, 2018
Russell was energetic and enthusiastic. His classes were conversational and the techniques and warm-ups he taught me are still things I use everytime I pick up my guitar.Jun 12, 2018
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?I'll meet them either in person or online for no charge so that they can determine whether they would like to continue having me as a teacher. During the first meeting, I'll learn what musical experience they have, what they already know about the instrument, what their goals and ambitions are. From there, I'll offer some practical advice on getting to their goals.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work? From the time I was only five years old, I've learned music on a formal level - voice, piano, French horn, and guitar. I've also made a point to explore the best advice possible from many other pros in my industry to learn the best possible methods for learning, performing and producing music.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?Somewhat by accident, actually. When I was 17, I was asked to substitute teach at a music school that I was attending. I acquired my first private student when I was 19, and just fell in love with teaching guitar. I turned pro full-time when I was 21, and have been going strong ever since!
