Introduction: Teaching guitar is my passion. I believe that everyone has a musical potential and I love helping people develop their musicality and I firmly believe that the saying "if you give a person a fish, you feed them for a day. But if you teach someone to fish, you feed them for a lifetime." I put every part of me into finding the best way for my students to learn. I have over eight years experience teaching guitar in a variety of styles including rock, blues, finger-style, and classical guitar.

My initial music background: I have about 5 years experience with trumpet from elementary and middle school, and then a semester of steel string guitar in high school and a semester of voice in college (I’m 31 now). I also have small hands. Review (3 months into weekly 1/2 hour online lessons): Bradley has simply been a fantastic classical guitar teacher- very understanding of your obligations/goals and knowledgeable about good classical guitar technique and pedagogy. I went in with the mindset that I would learn classical guitar from the ground up, and after 3 months I have completed Bradley’s preferred Shearer method book with the ability to read music and good practice habits. I would say the most important things Bradley has shown me is how to practice properly, how to read and break down sheet music for better learning/playing, and correct posture/guitar fingering, in that order. Now that I’m on the final song of Shearer’s method book, has encouraged me to consider where I’d like to go next, suggesting working towards playing more complicated classical guitar works, working on scales or music theory, or selecting some other direction of my choosing. I’m very much looking forward to continuing my lessons with Bradley.

I highly recommend Brad! Classical guitar is really a perfect style as you don’t need a band or a backing track to make nice music. Brad’s experience is evident in that he knows many methods and techniques to elevate your playing. I like the pace of the lessons - I have learned many songs yet we have gone through each song in detail. He has an easy going style in that he delivers criticisms and suggestions in a helpful and educational manner. I feel as if I improve with each lesson as he chooses songs and exercises of slightly increasing difficulty. I’ve enjoyed my lessons and intend to continue with Brad!

Details: 45 - 64 years old • 4+ yrs of formal training • Yes, can read music staff • Acoustic • Classical • No, but the student is planning to purchase an instrument • 45 minutes • Remotely (phone or internet)

I cannot recommend Bradly enough! Honestly, I have been so happy with our lessons individual guitar lessons and my own progress. Last winter when I decided to start guitar lessons as a total beginner, and I found Bradly on Thumbtack and I have been SO impressed with his teaching style, patience, knowledge, professionalism, and super high quality instruction. I can't believe how many songs I have learned how to play already and I'm even reading music! He is extremely responsive when I have any questions and he is such a wonderful, supportive teacher. He very effectively uses technology to share music sheets, videos, notes, and calendar appointments that makes everything a breeze. I wish I could give more than 5 stars; he has been so great. If you are looking for an awesome guitar teacher who will meet you where you are at and support you to reach your goals, and who will always be kind and professional, Bradly is your guy!!

I have been taking guitar lessons with Brad for about a year and a half now and it has been a really rewarding experience. Brad has a very professional and down to earth teaching style which has made it easy for me to feel comfortable with taking lessons form him. Brad understands I work a full time 9-6 job and the limitations that come along with that. In terms of his expertise, I appreciate that Brad as a classically trained player is extremely knowledgable in both the guitar and music in general. I am someone who needs context and Brad has always taken the time to explain concepts and ideas thoroughly. He really concerns himself with the musical context and meaning behind everything that we play and this allows me to feel like I am actually growing and developing a musical identity as opposed to just mechanically playing an instrument. I am extremely satisfied with the progress I've made while being Brad's student. While I appreciate his help in diving into music that I want to explore, I am equally grateful for the structure and overall comprehensive framework that he brings to the lessons. Lastly I would say that he has helped me constantly achieve and set new goals in my guitar journey. I needed someone to make my learning as efficient as possible and that has been possible with Brad. If you're serious about starting to learn the instrument and are looking for an instructor that will work with you to figure out what works best for you - I would definitely recommend trying out a lesson with Brad.
