Amazing service ! Super high quality. Highly recommend.May 4, 2017Verified
Kat was very thorough—she caught a bunch of mistakes that I missed and read up about stylistic norms in my field. She explained her changes clearly. Finally, she was on time, and gave an accurate estimate of how much the project would cost.Apr 19, 2017Verified
Kat Setzer is an experienced editor and has edited numerous pieces for me over the years, including resumes and cover letters, poetry, and short fiction. From proofreading to copyediting to developmental editing, I've benefitted from her keen editorial eye and insightful feedback on projects in all stages of development. Not only is she a skilled and diligent editor, she's also fun to work with!Mar 13, 2017
Simply put: Kat Setzer rescued the first essay I ever wrote-- which went on to win a major award; which attracted the attention of a grant organization; which gave me a grant to research the subject of the essay further; which became a book that will now be published in two months. And who did I give a draft of that book to, before I dared give it to my editor? Kat. And once again, she gave me amazing, astute, precise feedback. Kat can see when an essay starts in the wrong place; when its events would have more impact in a different order (the issue with that first essay-- she was totally right, as always); when a story's characters are undeveloped; when a different sentence or word would have more impact in a cover letter or professional document. I can't count up how many things I've given her to read over the years, but she's made every single one of them better, and made me sound smarter and more creative every time. She *sees* how to make them better, sees it even when no one else can. Pure editing wizardry.Mar 12, 2017
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?I offer an hourly rate with my quotes, although we can usually discuss a set fee for a project once I've had the chance to discuss it further with you.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer? After our initial e-mails, I like to speak over the phone about the project. For editing, I will then work on the project and set up a follow-up call to go over my notes; I also e-mail notes and the marked up manuscript. For writing projects, I will discuss a timeline for your project, with set points for checking in and answering questions. With these projects, I will send you drafts or pieces of the project along the way, so you can see how it is progressing. Depending on your end goals, I am also happy to help prepare a manuscript for publication.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I hold an MFA in Creative Writing, with multiple publications (fiction and articles). I currently work at a technical society magazine, but I have edited literary journals in the past.
