FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I start by first encouraging my clients to view my work. I feel like every photographer has a distinct style of portraiture and making sure that my style meshes with a client's specific photography needs is very important. Once they've seen my work and booked me for a session we go through formalities such as payments and contracts. I link them to an article regarding how to best prepare and dress themselves and their families for our session. We usually exchange a few emails and get things pretty nailed down. A few days before our session I either call or meet my clients to go over all the session details. They use this time to ask any further questions they might have and it's really just a great time for me to connect with them on a more personal basis and hang up or walk away knowing exactly what they want out of their session.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I'm a self taught photographer so while I have no formal training I have been studying the art of photography for the last 5 years. I read articles, watch webinars and interact almost daily with my mentors. I compete in photography competitions annually where my images are critiqued by master photographers. These critiques help me continue towards my own mastery of this craft.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
About 9 years ago I worked in the scrapbooking industry as an instructor and designer. This is when I first fell in love with the art of storytelling with photographs. I was in the industry for nearly 4 years when I had my first child. I then became a stay at home and bought my first DSLR camera to document her childhood. It wasn't until 5 years later, though, that I realized that I really enjoyed photographing not just my family but other people's families. I reached out to people I knew to let me practice on their families and from there it's just snowballed into what I do today. Along the way I tried every niche of photography one can think of and families and weddings came to be my specialties. I am mastering this craft and I don't just take photos but, I create custom pieces of art for my clients.
