FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Lessons occur weekly, for 30 minutes each week. There is a monthly tuition of $80. Recitals typically happen twice a year, though on occasion I'll throw in a third recital. Longer lessons at a comparably higher price are available upon request. First lesson is free to determine student/teacher compatibility.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Starting with a new student depends on whether or not they have had any previous lesson experience. If they haven't had previous lesson experience, I only request that they bring a spiral notebook and a recording device to the first lesson. We then set some goals and I get a feel for what the student wants out of lessons. Music is chosen based on that first lesson. If they've taken lessons elsewhere before I like them to bring anything they've most recently been working on, as well as a recording device and a spiral notebook and we go through basically the same process. In general, I like to teach music from a classical standpoint, but I love many genres and am happy to help students in learning a multitude of genres. I always make sure that the students are learning theory and technique and that they have at least once piece that is just fun for them and they really love.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I began taking piano lessons at the age of 8 and took lessons for years. I began teaching private piano lessons when I was in high school. Voice lessons began for me in high school and I studied voice intensively in college. I began teaching voice lessons back in college. I majored in music and now have a bachelor's degree in music education. I've taught school for just over four years, as well as continually teaching private voice and piano throughout those years. I sing professionally with the Utah Symphony Chorus and play the piano professionally for various soloists and ensembles, as well as a solo performer at events like weddings and receptions.
