- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?I try to control my clients' legal fees when billing by the hour. For example, I don't charge for very short phone calls or emails, and I'm sure to get client approval before pursuing expensive legal work. I also offer flat fee services, which means the client makes a single payment up-front to cover a defined stage of a case. After discussing the case and the cost with a client, it is the client's choice whether they want to pay up front, or pay by the hour as we go. An honest discussion of what each stage of the case is likely to cost will help you decide how you want to pay for legal services.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?I always want to talk with a client first, to make sure that we're a good fit and that we want to work together. You should know how I work and what I recommend, and I need to know what you hope to achieve in your legal case. If we decide to work together I will ask you to sign a representation agreement, make a payment, and provide the information and documents necessary for me to pursue your case. I stay closely in touch with clients to share all legal documents, correspondence, and communication. My clients make the important decisions about how their case will move forward, with my guidance and representation to move toward your goals.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I earned my law degree from University of California, Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco. I worked for years as an in-house Mediator for the Utah State Courts, handling juvenile court family and custody issues. I was a volunteer attorney trained by Utah Legal Services in family law and divorce. My current law practice is focused entirely on divorce and family law, at the office of Good Law, LLC. I appear regularly in family court. Every year I take part in continuing legal education in the field of family law.
