About a year ago I thought I knew everything about working out. Not only have I been going to the gym for at least 6 years but I’ve even experimented with cross fit, kick boxing and hip-hop aerobics. Like many working moms, I try to squeeze in the time to exercise and eat healthy. Unfortunately life can get pretty busy between jobs, kids, pets, relatives and significant others. Before you know it, exercise and nutrition are #100 on the to-do list just under bleaching the grout and scheduling hypnotherapy for your neurotic cat. Last Spring, after some difficult health struggles, I became profoundly unmotivated to take care of myself. However, the longing for that sense of wellness that exercise and nutrition had fostered in the past prompted me to send a half-hearted email to the gym up the street. After a surprisingly prompt reply from a personal trainer named Christopher Gonzalez, I realized that all I got from exercise in the past were 2 broken fingers and a hip-hop-career-ending ankle sprain. All joking aside, my exercise journey with Christopher has not been about extreme weight loss or that post-baby 6 pack. Instead, our trainer-client relationship has a strong foundation built from a collaborative effort inspired by Christopher’s knowledge and experience. His dedication to training and fitness became evident just after a couple of training sessions. After listening to what my goals were, he did an excellent job of communicating how I could achieve success through exercise and nutrition. He gives an incredible amount of attention to each training session using a combination of different exercises. His personality, patience, and sense of humor have made me want to work hard to make each session count. I have been rewarded as I find myself more fit in my 40’s than I was in my 20’s. What matters most, however, is that my success has been sustainable despite my hectic life. I owe that to Christopher, as he has mastered the ART of personal training.
