It was great to work with Candice. She was very responsive, and I appreciated her honesty about the challenges we might face reupholstering the pieces I hired her to revamp. I provided Candice with two thirty year old original Danish design chairs from Bruno Matson and Jacob Jensen. They were much loved (I.e. worn). And, in an outdated royal blue color. She picked out fantastic fabric options to take them back to a more traditional neutral. She worked quickly and sent me pictures of her progress along the way. The chairs are PERFECT. Candice did a great job on a reupholstery project for me on a mid-century armchair that was tattered and needed replacement foam. Working with Candice was a great experience overall. She was on top of communication, had a reasonable bid, and promised to get my chair to me in about a week. Candice also provided great recommendations for fabric stores. - What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?I charge $45 - $55 per hour for labor depending on the project and skill level required. My labor prices are lower than the average upholsterer because I'm in the beginning stages of my career.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?After discussing a project via email or phone I love to visit the client's space if time allows. This gives me a good idea of how the piece fits in to the rest of the environment and a better sense of a client's aesthetic. Once a clear plan for a project is determined and once I've received the necessary fabric and a 50% deposit, then I get to work!
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I have studied upholstery and sewing for the last three years with Gil's Upholstery, Berna Alvarez and Franciscan Interiors. I continue to work under the experienced eye of Gilbert Herrera at Gil's Upholstery while also taking on my own clients and projects. In addition to my time in San Francisco I spent 6 months in Berlin doing an internship with Francesca Ragusa of Moebel Klinik, a specialist in antique furniture restoration.
