Refresh and Build recently completed renovations to my Hayes Valley (San Francisco) condo including a complete bathroom remodel, new floors throughout, new light fixtures, and a several other modifications. I selected R & B because of excellent online reviews and a reasonable initial estimate. In fact, R & B’s bid was about ½ of the other bid I received—for the same job! So, the decision was easy—and it proved to be the right decision. Sam, the project manager, was personable, flexible, and accommodating. He provided me with a wide choice of items and materials from which to choose. He was especially attentive to the cost of various fixtures and supplies and did push high-end items. The workers I encountered were all pleasant and professional. One of my neighbors even told me he was impressed by how friendly and quiet they were. The remodel wet very well, but very slowly, with many delays. The delays were often beyond Sam’s control—supply problems, the wrong materials delivery, broken items delivered, and the usual inspection issues. Despite the delays, the renovation process was positive overall. I can’t imagine having a more successful remodel at a more reasonable price. I certainly recommend Refresh and Build.

We bought a new house in Redwood city and we were looking to increase the size of the house we wanted an extra bedroom and some more closet space, increase the size of the kitchen and an extra bathroom a total of 300 sqf addition. We started calling contractors to get bids, well first of all not every contractor can handle home addition, we called 6 only 2 accepted to meet us, one contractor did a quick calculation and wanted to lock us up on a contract after 20 min of being there, we nicely declined.
When Sam from Refresh and Build met with us, his asked soo many questions to know all our needs and we asked questions back about the process and he explained everything on details, couple days later he connected us with an architect and who helped us to get the layout, and only when the architect did the layout that Sam provided with a very detailed proposal.
He really made it very easy for us to understand all the costs and comparing to the other guy, his price was way better.
After we had all the blueprints, Sam applied for the permit and scheduled all the inspections, the demolition went well, the foundation went well, the framing and plumbing and HVAC went super well, every single task was on schedule that he provided us. That helped us a lot because we had to move and live in another house.
After passing all inspections they installed the cabinets for the kitchen and counter within a week dn the all appliances right after se we could move in, and then they finished the work with the bathroom and the paint.
My brother bought a house too right after and they are doing his home addition, what can I say they have been just fantastic, professional and on time.

We needed three baths to be upgraded. One of them involved converting a half bath to full and it needed drilling through post tension slab. It required a licensed contractor who knew this work.
After experiencing some unprofessional folks, I found Refresh and Build through Thumbtack. It was a great relief to talk to Sam Chekroun. He knew exactly what he was talking about. He was very professional and precise in his communication. He showed me examples of his work and I also spoke to a few of his past clients for reference and decided to trust him with our remodeling work. It was a great decision for many reasons:
- Sam has done the work before
- He was very knowledgeable and professional
- He knew the licensing and permit process very well
- He provided appropriate guidance that was beneficial to us although at times it reduced his work and billing
- Sam had a great set of contractors who were skilled in their jobs
- He provided help in selecting and buying materials
- He coordinated with city authorities for permits and inspections
- Sam ensured that work was completed on time. The quality of work was excellent and overall it was a very good experience
I will highly recommend Sam for remodeling and construction work and I know I am going to engage him again if we need more work around our home.

This is review is for the first visit and information shared. I have not agreed to any work with Sam thus far. Sam was on time and provided step by step information to initiate my projects. He shared useful information and tips and tricks to ensuring that myself the customer felt knowledgeable. He is very passionate about his trade, though I have not decided on a builder I greatly appreciate his expertise.
