Introduction: My teaching style is a synthesis of many different methods. Over the years I have collected the approaches and ideas of the influential musicians in my life and I now draw upon what I found most valuable when formulating a curriculum for my own students. I emphasize technical proficiency alongside musical style and expression. Regardless of what level a student is at, or what level they are aiming for, I help them to do each step well so they are well set up and enabled to take their musical studies wherever they wish. I strive to make lessons challenging, engaging, and fun!
I have a background in Body Mapping, which is a method for helping musicians to be aware of their bodies so they can be quick and efficient with their movements and also avoid discomfort from repetitive motions. This influences my teaching and I focus on making sure each student is physically well set up.
Although I primarily play and teach classical music I enjoy exploring other genres too! My experience includes playing soundtracks, jazz, rock, and American and Celtic fiddling.
I view private music lessons as a commitment on the part of both the teacher and the student. My commitment is to be kind, encouraging, and provide you with the skills and knowledge required to achieve your goals with the violin, whatever they may be. The commitment I expect from my students is for them to put in the home practice that is required to make private lessons effective and worthwhile.
I enjoy the challenge of finding what works for each individual student. Everyone has different learning styles and it is fun to get to know such a wide array of people through music!
