FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I like to obtain as much information about the person or the project as possible. I want to get to know the client's likes, dislikes, past good or bad experiences (relative to the job they want done), their doubts or reservations, or questions about me that they think are pertinent to their making an informed decision. I will write a draft of what I believe they want to convey and allow them to edit and hack and slash to their heart's content. If I believe they're making any mistakes in what they want omitted, I will explain my justification. If they still want to omit certain items that I believe are important, I will do as they wish. The client is the boss! If the client is not satisfied with my work after four written drafts, I will withdraw from the job WITHOUT CHARGE.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have more than 30 years experience as a technical writer and/or editor preparing print and online presentations. Said experience ranges from military technical manuals and regulations to steel-making equipment manufacturers and from computer software manuals to online Bible studies and Christian apologetics.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
I've created manuals and training for people with a fourth-grade reading level to those with Doctorates, from Army Privates to the Surgeon General of the U.S. I've learned that it's not the people I work "with" who determine the writing style, but the audience for whom we're writing. I do not write to impress, but to inform and/or instruct.
