FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Yes, the basic formula is $55 for the service call (scheduling, travel, etc.) and $90/hour for all work thereafter. A standard annual tuning takes about one hour and is a $145 flat rate. If the piano has not been tuned recently and it requires an initial pitch-correction tuning, or if it needs repairs or adjustments it may require an extra half-hour or hour of work ($45-$90) and/or a follow-up tuning appointment.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I try to get answers to the basic questionnaire including the make and model of the piano, if all the keys and pedals are working correctly, when it was last tuned, and what improvements they might be looking to make to the instrument in terms of touch and tone (i.e. the action feels heavy, or the piano sounds to bright and tinny, etc.)
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am a graduate of the 2-year Advanced Piano Technology Program at North Bennet Street School. I have also received advanced training in voicing and action regulation at the Steinway factory in New York City. I regularly attend Piano Technicians Guild conferences to improve my skills and keep current with the technology.
