Gathered Table catered a wedding in my home of 30 adults and some kids. Mary was wonderful to work with - they accommodated a very short timeline and she was wonderful about the menu and allowing me plenty of time for modifications and changes. She was laid back and relaxed, which helped ease my anxiety. The group was half Brazilian and half American, so they also made both Brazilian and American specialties. The food was awesome! It was an amazing experience, from start to finish. Her menu selections were perfect for an early Summer Dinner Party for eight. The drinks were out of this world, the appetizers were tremendous, the dinner- truly delicious, and the desert, fantastic! We hired Gathered Table to cook for 11 women at a bachelorette party this past weekend. The food was delicious and they were a pleasure to work with. - What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?At Gathered Table we like to keep pricing transparent. To do this, we present the expense of grocery separate from service fees. This allows clients to see exactly what they are spending on and prioritize.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?Listening is first, always. In conversations with a new client, I'm absorbing information about what's wanted -- and this sparks an idea of what I have to give, creatively. It's important to me to communicate clearly about the basics. Reflecting back the structure of the event -- timing, service-style, and even priorities budget-wise.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?My mother taught me to cook as a child and my grandfather taught me to garden. As a teenager I catered my first wedding. And then I went to cooking school in Vancouver. Under French and Italian chefs I studied vigorously and graduated with the highest practical exam score in the school's history. My training from there was predominantly in action as a private chef. This provided me a huge range of challenges - from nutritional counsel for pro-athletes to cocktail parties for 500, I've been swimming in the deep end. After years of fast paced learning by doing, I am really enjoying resting on my laurels.
