FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My rates are contingent on three factors: 1. Project scope 2. Services rendered (e.g., proofreading is a less labor-intensive and time-consuming process than developmental editing, so the rates for each service vary accordingly) 3. Requested turnaround I require one third of the total project fees upfront, one third at whatever we determine to be the project's middle point, and the remaining one third upon project completion. Invoicing via PayPal.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
I usually like to speak with my clients on the telephone about their project requirements before I ask them to send me a draft or section of the text so that I can offer them an accurate quote. Because writing is such a personal process, it's important to me that I earn your trust as an editor who you're confident will be responsive to your particular writing needs. I strive to provide my clients not only technically excellent writing and/or editing, but also highly professional and individualized conferencing services -- which means as much open communication via telephone, text message, or email as the client deems necessary.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Before I started freelancing on Thumbtack, I worked for three years at my alma mater's academic resource center as a student writing assistant. The one-on-one peer tutoring model I was trained in deeply influences my consultation work -- I consider writing to be a fundamentally collaborative process, and I think the editor and the author work most effectively when they meet to discuss writing from a place mutual respect for one another's expertise. I have also served as a peer reviewer for academic journals and as a Composition 101 teaching assistant. BA American history and political science, New College of Florida, Class of 2017.
