FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
Please contact me for specific pricing inquiries. SAT/ACT: If the student does not have previous test prep experience, I usually find that a semi-private or group class (up to 5 students) can increase scores. I offer inexpensive pricing for group classes, however it is the duty of the student to find classmates/friends to form a class. In my experience, students have also found scheduling some private sessions at the end of a course to be helpful in fine-tuning skills and strategies. Math subjects: I always recommend private sessions due to the highly personal and variable nature of learning styles. Pricing adjustments can be made for students who must travel long distances or would like to be taught remotely, such as over Skype or FaceTime.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Prior to beginning any tutoring sessions with the student, I always recommend a free half-hour consultation to all students and parents to discuss concerns and questions. *** Math subject tutoring (i.e. Geometry, Algebra): my approach is student-centric. Some students prefer to go through concepts first and then work on assigned homework from class. With others, I sometimes recommend extra sessions to catch up on previous concepts first, and then meet 1-2 times a week to stay on top of the current class schedule. The approach depends on what we discuss during the consult, and can always be altered as needed to fit the student's needs. *** SAT/ACT tutoring: sessions are generally more interactive classroom style. If the student has no experience with test prep, I start with a diagnostic test that the student takes in a simulated test-taking environment at home prior to our first meeting. Then, during the first session, I discuss with the student at length concerning any difficulties that he/she noticed during the diagnostic test. Next, during a 12-15 hour course (~ 2-3 hours per session), I cover strategies for each section of the test, focusing on the areas of difficulty that the student named. During this time, I have students do shortened sections with me so I can observe to make sure they are utilizing the strategies correctly and assign homework to ensure they fully incorporate new strategies into their test-taking skills.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have over 15 years of experience teaching a variety of school subjects. In 2014, I taught ACT classes (size ranging from semiprivate to upwards of 10 students) for The Princeton Review. In 2017, I consulted with The University of Michigan's School of Education program to design and implement a comprehensive ACT prep course for a high school outreach program. With my move towards focusing on the high school to college transition, I started not only teaching the prep courses, but also consulting for the applications.
