FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
My base prices are: $35/ 30minute lesson : $40/ 45minute lesson : $45/ 60minute lesson These prices apply to in-studio lessons as well as online. For in-home lessons, add an $8 travel charge per round trip. (If you have siblings who are taking back to back lessons, there will only be one travel charge.) I also offer an introductory package of 6 lessons at 20% off, or convenient monthly installments that are also discounted. You can see all the packages I offer at my teaching website, which you can find in my profile.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
In the first lesson, we will get to know each other a little bit - I will try to find out what your current level of experience is and we will set some short and long term goals for our work together. I will also discuss some of your favorite songs/artists and we will get some ideas of what repertoire you'd most like to learn. This is also a good time to tell me things you know about your learning style, and good or bad experiences you may have had with other teachers, so I can tailor my teaching style to your needs. We will then do a little bit of a warmup, some exercises, learn a new concept, and then move on to working on the songs we've chosen! Then I'll suggest a few things for you to work on before our next lesson together. It's as simple as that!
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I'm the fourth generation of music teachers in my family, so I began studying music at an early age (I often talk about the fact that I learned to read music about the same time I learned to read words!) and have carried on with music in one form or another throughout my life. I majored in Musical Theatre Performance at college in Canada (which is where I grew up) and performed in many musicals throughout my 20s and 30s, mostly on tour through western Canada. Later on, I decided to focus on music, and have sung in numerous bands of all different genres. My current main performing project is JPJQ (my jazz quartet).
